For Kids

1. INTERACTIVE ENGLISH FOR KIDS-LEARN TO READ AND READ TO LEARN
(Dr Dinu Adaptable Reading Model) (ages 5-12)
"Adaptable Reading Instruction" (ARI) is the outcome of Dr Dinu’s rigorous doctoral research at the University of Hong Kong. It is an innovative approach that has recently garnered significant attention and recognition among esteemed educators and scholars on a global scale. ARI is a revolutionary approach to reading instruction that takes into account students' individual differences, as well as the valuable insights of teachers and decision-makers. The program is designed for primary levels. The students engage in various reading activities in a 90-minute lesson each week. The program is meticulously planned for same-level and small groups of students (3-8 students) and adapted to cater to individual differences such as ability, motivation, learning styles, and social preferences. The books are thoughtfully selected from reputable publishers to match students' instructional reading levels and help them read in English independently (on an international scale from Reading level 1 to 30). Lessons are thoughtfully designed to incorporate various components: •Reading Assessments to create students’ reading ability, motivation and needs profiles; •Shared Reading/teaching of high-frequency words and phonics (P2 students learn the short vowel sounds; P3 learn the long vowel sounds, r-controlled words and consonant digraphs; P4-P6 students learn phonics in context); •Guided Reading with teaching and application of basic/advanced reading strategies and phonics in context; •Interactive Activities (hands-on activities linked to the day’s topic) to consolidate the learnt knowledge (games, experiments, puzzles, cooking, crafts, and videos are directly linked to the books students read during the guided reading segment). •Independent online reading as homework helps solidify the knowledge acquired during other segments while fostering a love for reading. This approach helps students develop independent reading habits by empowering students to become confident and skilled readers and thus enrich their knowledge of the world. Moreover, the plethora of activities associated with it helps develop not only their motivation for reading and knowledge but also make progress in all the other skills: speaking, listening and writing, contributing to a well-rounded outcome.
